The Boat House Price: Menu: Fusion cooking There are two routes you can take to the northern beach of Cala San Vicente: either via the beautiful village of San Juan, or by taking the steep and twisting road along the coast from San Carlos. We took the coast road with all the twists and turns and the fantastic vistas across the bays of north-western Ibiza. The owner of the “Boat House” restaurant is good-looking Jay, also one of the owners of “On The Beach”, just 50 metres further on. Jay tells us: I was born on Ibiza, but have Dutch hippie parents. My mum is a vegetarian, my sister loves fish and my father and I prefer meat. When I was considering a new restaurant, I particularly wanted to take into account the diversity of people and their tastes. And when a girl of 10 asked me last year at On The Beach: “Why don’t you have any vegan dishes on your menu?”, I knew for sure that in our new restaurant there should be something for everyone! Last year, Jay and his Brazilian girlfriend went over to Barcelona with a pick-up truck and travelled the Spanish mainland, eating in various restaurants and speaking to fishermen along the way. This resulted in fusion-cooking dishes with influences from places such as Morocco, Iran and of course Spain. The fish you see on the menu is caught fresh every day from small boats that land at the beach of Cala San Vicente. We tried the temaki roll with quinoa and grilled prawns, the bulgur salad and, to drink, a smoothie made with green apples, celery, parsley, lime, spinach and cucumber. The interior decor style is vintage: various second-hand pieces of furniture and decorations were gathered during the travels in the truck. And they have hammocks!
